City Girl?

First, let’s take a moment to note something awesome. How long did it take me to drive home from Milwaukee last night? ONE HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES. And that was with some down-to-one-lane construction on 94E. Total mileage? 66. Total mileage it took to get from Champaign, IL to Jackson, TN? 380.

That’s a 314 mile difference, folks. Just a smidddddgen significant. I didn’t even need an audio book; just caught up on my radio tunes. You know, so I’d have a clue who Ke$hA is (eh, could’ve done without that info).

Utter awesomeness of that reality aside, my GOODNESS I wish we lived roughly zero minutes apart. That’s why this whole job application process is rather complicated. Do I want to shoot for a Milwaukee job, knowing that Adam could very well leave there in September (…making my move to Milwaukee have no relation to him)? Or should I just stick with the Chicago suburbs, knowing that that way I’ll be close to friends/family and not that far from Adam, should he get to stay in WI?

Chicago suburbs is obviously the safe choice. But…I just don’t know. I feel really pulled to Milwaukee. As Adam and I have discussed, living in an American city is about the closest you can get to feeling like you’re in Europe without living abroad. I think the “being able to walk most everywhere” is a big part of that. Reminds me, at least to some small degree, of walkin’ the streets of Verona every day (and then magically losing 20 pounds while downing gelato and doner kebabs on a near-daily basis…ANYWAY). Just feels healthier, younger, more fun. And then I suppose the easy choice would seem to be to just move to Chicago. But, well, I think living in Chicago on my own still intimidates me a bit. And I’m far more comfortable driving to/in Milwaukee, which really is kind of a big thing for me. God I hate driving.

What a jumble o’ thoughts, all for your viewing, er, pleasure. What to do, what to do…

  1. its a tough choice, I don’t know which one I would choose. As much as I loved growing up in Chicago, I tend to prefer the burbs now that I am older. I think Milwaukee would be a perfect combo of city life, but also suburb living.

Ok, so I have to ask, which suburb are you living in?? The reason I ask is that I am only about 45-1 hour from Milwaukee from where I live now, so I was just curious.

  2. Good luck with the moving decisions — I know it’s got to be rough to pick a place and not know if it will work in six months or even a year. Wishing you the best!

  3. I don’t envy you having to make this decision. I have to say that I would probably be tempted to look in both areas and let the chips fall where they may.

  4. I used to hate that Ke$ha chick, and then I realized that I kind of liked the annoying catchy chorus in that one song where she raps. So embarrassing!

And I LOVE living in the city! Hubs and I walk just about everywhere, except work of course. It’s so nice having everything within walking distance; the ballpark, bars, awesome 5 star restaurants, clubs, etc. etc. It’s awesome =D

  5. Well I have to say that picture of you is kind of awesome. Good luck with your decision!

  6. hahah ke$ha heard way too much of tick tock while driving during break.

  7. [...] to right what feels like a mess of a life right now. I need to be living in a city, dudes. I used to wonder if I was a city girl. At 25-years-old, anyway? Yes, yes I [...]
