Drumroll, Please.

On Adam’s balcony last weekend (check out my free Milwaukee shirt!)

1. I took the job in northern IL.

(Duh). Everything about this job just feels right. While there’s a plethora of elementary school openings, early childhood is a lot harder to find, and this position fits the bill. I’m not opposed to elementary someday, but right now preschool is where my passion seems to be, and I think I should get to experience that. I’m happy with my salary (and sign-on bonus!), the other SLPs seem awesome, and the building rocks. And because I want the best of both worlds…

2. I’m moving to Milwaukee in late July.

It’s going to be an hour commute. Uncool in terms of $$ for gas/wear and tear on my car/inconvenience, but could be kind of awesome for my audio-book love and my preference for some alone/unwinding time. I’m kinda already looking forward to listening to all the Harry Potters. And, sweet thing about schools, I’ll likely still be home at a perfectly decent time.

3. Adam and I are moving in together.

The big reason the hour commute feels doable. After a year of long distance (and almost three years of dating), we’ll be going to sleep together every night. We’ll be living in a city I’m really loving, makin’ our own little home. We toured apartments a lot last weekend and, as of today, have picked one. I love the apartment, its neighborhood, and its (free) gym.

Bottom line: I’m crazy excited. Certainly have had some doubts about it financially, but after a lot of number crunching (my goodness, Adam can rock a spreadsheet)…I should be just fine. If there was ever a time to pick the slightly more adventurous path, I think this is it. I’m 23-years-old: HEAR ME ROAR. Or, er, something.

On a semi-related note: visuals from this afternoon—Adam took me out for an “Elena got the job!” lunch at Bucca di Beppo. It was delicious.

Hello, Mozzarella Garlic Bread. Nice to meet you.

Seated where we belong: the wine room!

Future roomie drinkin’ a Peroni ;-D

Mmm Spicy Chicken Rigatoni. See you again tomorrow.

  2. Wow! Lots of awesome changes! Congratulations again on the job, and I wish you the best of luck with the move! I still regret not going to grad school in Milwaukee. It’s a great place. We’ll have to meet up sometime soon, now that you’re done with the Praxis! :)

Elena, I’m THRILLED FOR YOU about everything. Well, except for the commute. That does suck. I used to have a 45 minute commute to my first post-undergrad job, and it sounds like you and I think the same way about the best use of that time: audiobooks all the way!

Seriously though, I am so happy for you and for Adam, who is getting a great roommate :-)

    Congratulations!!

  8. Amazing!!!! So many congratulations are in order. I’m so thrilled and excited for you.

  9. That’s awesome! Congrats on all those things! I’m sure it’s great to have some things settled and to know what’s going to be what after some time of instability and decision making! Also, you look super cute in your free tee!
