Doughnuts & Reunions: March 25th, 2012

Event: Reunions in NYC & NJ

Outfit: Blouse: NODRESSCODE by Tony Cohen (Spring/Summer ’08 collection; via Falcon—gift card; Jeans: Apt 9 via KOHL’S; Sandals: Franco Sarto via DSW

After a quick trip to Prospect Park (it started raining. Boooo) on Sunday morning, we headed back to Anna’s dorm to change/pack for New Jersey. We fit in a quick trip to Buffalo Exchange (had to continue my thrifting education) before meeting my college friend Melissa (see here in 2009, 2010) and her boyfriend Jesse for DOUGHNUTS in Chelsea. Oh my goodness, was Doughnut Plant amazing. Anna and I continued our theme of splitting desserts for almost all meals and ordered up carrot cake & coconut creme varieties (+ a churro and some coffee for good measure). Was great to see Melissa livin’ her NY/NJ life and to meet Jesse.

After doughnuts it was time to catch a train to NJ to see our relatives. Our dad’s whole side of the family still lives in NJ, where he spent most of his childhood, and we don’t see them nearly enough! My great-aunt and great- uncle, for example? Hadn’t seen since I was 9-years-old. The wedding was, of course, set to be a family reunion, and I’m so glad I got to have one anyway!

The woulda coulda shouldas certainly made this trip rough mentally at times. This was set to be a newlywed trip—me out on the east coast the whole week w/a long romantic weekend in there somewhere. Was this trip awesome? Absolutely. Were there some rough moments? Yes. Saw so many sites/museums/things the ex would’ve loved, and it’s hard to get out of that mentality. Oh well. It made being around family feel even more essential—-they’re always there supporting you, even if they’re usually on the other side of the country. Was great to see them all (and yay for the yummy BYOB Italian restaurant where the gathering went down!).

Next up: More New Jersey!
