Surprise!: May 4th, 2012

Event: dinner/drinks out in MKE

Outfit: Shirt: Gap; Jeans: Apt 9 via KOHL’S; Heels: Steve Madden; Bag: Rebecca Minkoff via Zappos; Dog: answers to Zeppelin, borrowed from Kristy πŸ˜‰

By this time last year, I had already planned my 25th-birthday-wine/cheese-soiree and was crazy-giddy about it. This year? Buying myself this colorful handbag was about all the celebration/acknowledgement of my birthday I desired. I think dropping lots o’ $$ and time on the ex’s birthday, only to be dumped a week later, kinddddd of jaded me a bit (I know…me? The birthday queen? Who would’ve thought this was possible?!).

But then last night Kristy and I walked over to Stacked for dinner—-I just expected Tracy to be joining us. And, instead, it was a surprise-early-birthday-dinner-gathering, complete with cards + presents— & I was completely touched and thrilled. I’ve never had a surprise party before!! They treated me to a delicious meal o’ chocolate milkshake, a loaded turkey burger, & sweet potato fries. Headed to Oak, a new bar in the Third Ward, for drinks after that (ah, Spotted Cow. How I always miss thee). Back at Kristy’s place, a present from Maria awaited me! I felt totally spoiled and it was a wonderful surprise.

Today? Brunch with Kristy & Carrie at Honeypie (we spent most of our time just planning our to-go dessert orders) and a bit of shopping at Five Hearts and Anthropologie (where we all made use of my birthday discount). Back across the border I cranked out a 4 mile run + cool-down to ease my conscience a bit (entering every calorie—to the best of my ability—into the”My Fitness Pal” app yesterday was bruuuutal) and, um, then ate my previously purchased pie. PURE HEAVEN.

Lovely start to the weekend. P.S. Check out my new bag! I’m so jazzed about it. Coral/grey/gold and not $20 from Target? Pretty darn exciting.

  1. What a great birthday celebration! And way to go for buying yourself something super nice. You deserve it! I mentioned your last post to my husband the other night and he said there is no way he’d be able to pick out a nice bag for me so I’d just have to tell him which one to buy and then it wouldn’t be a surprise anymore. I bet most guys feel like that. Moral of the lesson: Never wait for a man to buy you the nice thing you want! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

    • Very true! I feel like it’s too personal-preference-y an item to receive without picking it out first (&admittedy, I usually prefer surprise gifts!). And thanks—I will say, was fun treating myself!

  2. Sounds like you have some fabulous friends! Did you get the pink pants? They look great!

    • πŸ™‚ Alas, I did not—they were $150+ and a bit too tight. Hopefully will find a hot pink pair that works someday!

  3. I love that purse!! It’s beautiful!! What a nice splurge! πŸ™‚

  8. […] Met. Bought my first designer bag, a Rebecca Minkoff MAC. She’s having a sale right now (so tempting!) if anyone’s in the market for a handbag. […]
